A new Story in Water Conservation

In 2008 the San Diego Unified Port District started a pilot project to remove unusable turf along the San Diego Bay and to replant these areas with low water use plant material. The initial project consisted of six separate sites where excessive turf was removed and a more sustainable, drought tolerant plant palette was installed. The first of the six sites has now been installed for over a year and the Port District reports lower water usage and a reduction in overall maintenance costs. The landscape improvement also provides a nice aesthetic entrance to the San Diego Bay.
